Double think

The acceptance of contrary opinions or beliefs at the same time, especially as a result of political indoctrination.  George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four

The Left’s contortions over their double think would be amusing were they not so damaging.

Let's start with one of the Left's cardinal causes:

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men AND WOMEN are created equal. [Emphasis in text.]

Equality of the sexes: men and women must be treated  the same. Concisely illustrated in the Guardian Newspaper:

That concept immediately  sparked controversy.  Surely, that did not mean that women should be combat soldiers or firefighters or cops.  Oh, yes it did.  But they cannot pass the physical test requirements.  Not a concern - simply lessen those requirements. Guess what?

They did!

So far, so good for the Left.

But what of standards that could not be tampered with? In sports, cannot give 4 strikes for women; cannot give women 5 points for a basket, or call a first down after 6 yards. Equality would mean women and men compete for the same sport with the team selected on basis of merit.  True equality -right?  Just what the Left wants.  No!

Enter double think. There must be separate sport leagues for women. What happened to equality?

It disappeared,  morphed into segregation. Perfect example of accepting two contrary beliefs at the same time.

Federal statute Title IX:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

College sports fell within the language of Title IX.  That simple language had an impact beyond expectation. Obviously women's sports prospered. But more than 400 men's athletic teams have been eliminated in order for universities to comply with the statute. Most affected were Olympic sports which are low revenue - wrestling, track and field, and swimming.

It is  laudable to encourage young women to play sports but, if the women cannot make the college team,  they can do as young men in the same position do - play intramural sports.

Title IX even has had an adverse effect upon high schools

Let’s look at the public schools K-12 instead, and let’s examine California as a case study. To accommodate Title IX, schools had to ensure that girls had as many resources as boys did when it came to locker rooms, physical-education (PE) classes, access to sports fields, and most important, faculty/coaching time. With the redistribution of resources—in essence, twice as many students with only a fraction more resources—schools had to make a choice. California responded by lopping off mandatory PE classes as part of its curriculum. In 1976, attempting to comply with Title IX, junior and senior high school students of both sexes were exempted from physical education, and within a year, an internal California survey found that 'staffing has been reduced and teaching methods changed as a direct result of the new programs.'

But the Left refuses to be confused by facts. Their purpose has been achieved; women have equality and segregation. Harking back to the Lone Ranger:

Our work is done here.

Then came the Left's next prize pursuit: LGTB's demand for "transgender" rights.

Transgender is an umbrella term that refers to individuals who do not conform to binary gender norms that correspond with their assigned sex at birth. This term includes a wide spectrum of individuals, including but not limited to people whose gender identity differs from the gender typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth, those who embrace gender fluidity, and those who do not identify as either men or women.

Use the restroom consistent with who you are... Ad sponsored by the New York City Commission on Human Rights.

Under Obama, the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration[OSHA] released regulations that transgender employees should have access to the restrooms that correspond to their gender identities.

Curt Schilling, a six time All Star pitcher and commentator for ESPN, on his own time and on his own personal social media account, wrote

A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.

ESPN fired him.

It was too much even for some of the faithful. A director of an ACLU chapter resigned over the issue.
...my personal experience of having taken my elementary school age daughters into a women’s restroom when ... three transgender young adults over six feet with deep voices entered.... [her] children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was ill-prepared to answer. [Emphasis added.]

The brilliant political cartoonist Glen McCoy had a field day

But there was happiness in Left-land.

What happened next was inevitable. If a man could claim he felt like a woman, not only could he use the women's bathroom and lockers, he could go out for women's sports teams.  And inevitably, the transgender male would make those teams, costing a woman her place.

A recent news item reported how a transgender male competed in a women's track meet winning 2 races by a goodly margin.  His times in the races would have placed him dead last in the men's meet,  with times worse than the men's last place finisher.

Yearwood ran the 100-meter final in 12.66 seconds and the 200-meter final in 26.08. According to Northeast Sports Timing, the last-place times in the boys 100-meter and 200-meter Class M finals were 11.73 seconds and 25.59 seconds, respectively.

The coup of having a separate sports leagues for women was effectively nullified. One would expect an outcry from the Left that women's rights had been violated. There was none!

The Left stayed with their demand that male transgenders must be treated as women. Double think at its best or worst. The Left chose LGBT "rights" over those of women.

All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others. George Orwell, Animal Farm.

David Kupelian,  author of The Snapping of the American Mind:
The insanity of this affects not just the transgendered individual and the women athletes thus victimized...It also contributes to a sort of mass delusion infecting our whole society in which, thanks to the influence of the powerful LGBT movement, everybody now has to either affirm the absurd and crazy – that a man who is essentially a female impersonator can fairly compete against women – or they have to suffer abuse and persecution as bigots just for speaking the truth. [Emphasis added.]

The Left get nuttier and nuttier.

Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives...
The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so...Facts are stubborn things.
