Approximately three dozen people gathered for prayer and protest on the campus of the University of San Diego last night to oppose the Catholic university's second annual drag queen competition.

Approximately a dozen people gathered near the university's entrance with signs; another two dozen students and protestors prayed elsewhere on campus.

According to news reports, several hundred people attended the performance of "A Celebration of Gender Expression: Supreme Drag Superstar 2," hosted by USD's homosexual student group, Pride.

"This event affects all of us here on this campus. It misleads the participants, students, society and the Body of Christ by telling us that cross-dressing and acting upon disordered sexual preference are in line with Catholic social teaching. That is not the truth." said Ailsa Tirado, a USD sophomore.

Demonstrators say more than 7,000 people signed a petition in opposition to the event.

"In order to create those leaders of the world that the university wants to put out there, the leaders have to understand the entire populous," said one male supporter who mocked religious sisters by dressing in drag wearing a nun's habit. "This is a part of the populous. It's entertainment."

Professional drag queen and open homosexual Manila Luzon emceed the event.

The University claimed that the event was not contrary to the Church's teachings.
