66. —————–

President Lyons & Mr. Bass,

I’m an alumnus of USD, Class of 1991. I’m also
an active, practicing Catholic and have been my entire life. I’ve been
watching this play out over the last week and I’m shocked that you’ve not
put a stop to it as of yet.  I have to say, I’m appalled by the notion that
this would be a welcomed event on campus.  I recognize that not everyone in
attendance of the university is a Catholic. However, the institution itself
is Catholic and sponsored events should not be in direct conflict with the
core values of the institution.  I have never had a problem with the choice
people make in terms of their sexual orientation.  I do not agree with the
choice, but what I’ve learned through my faith and religious
education/upbringing to not judge and to love the person regardless of their
beliefs or practices.

Part of the appeal that led to my decision to attend USD was the fact that
it was a Catholic institution. This is however, in direct opposition to what
I would have expected to see on campus. I would urge the university to
immediately cancel the event and stop worrying what is political correct and
make a stand for what the university and the Catholic religion still stands
for in this country and throughout the world – that this type of event does
not belong on the campus of any Catholic university, high school or any
Catholic supported educational institution for that matter.  Period.

Your legacy as President is in the balance with a number of Alumni, current
students and prospective students, President Lyons.  Mr. Bass, I say the
same for you as well.

Here’s to both of you making the right decision not the politically correct
one.

Sincerely,

67. ——————————

Dear Mary Lyons,

To say I cannot believe that this event, this drag show, is taking place on USD’s campus would be a misstatement.  I’ve heard too often about the ridiculous material that is pushed on unsuspecting students in their theology classrooms.  One professor, it seems, even proffers a “theology of dissent” (i.e. this professor teaches students a “legitimate” formula for dissenting from the Catholic Church’s teachings).  What is just about misrepresenting the Catholic Church and her teachings?

I’m of the belief that, sadly, much of this dissident behavior and propaganda is rooted in deep wounds that have never been healed.  Instead of reconciling with the Church (“the pillar and bulwark of truth”), it seems many individuals choose to attack the very institution that can issue true peace, healing, and freedom.  This is the real travesty: that the fear and hurt of a handful of persons, attempting to sympathize and encourage others who struggle with the same wounds, end up perpetuating the deep pain, sadness, and isolation that these wounds breed.

Please put the brakes on this drag show.  But don’t stop there.  Take inventory of your theology faculty members and help them find the healing they need.  “Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom,” 2 Corinthians 3:17.  Are you free?

“…the truth shall set you free,” John 8:32.

In Christ, through Mary,

It amazes me that a Catholic University could be sliding down the slippery
slope of EVIL, and not know it. What good is all your learning if you can’t
see evil when it is right in front of you. When I went to Catholic School,
we were taught to know the difference, and to be ambassadors for Jesus
Christ. Sadly, you are representing Satan rather than Jesus.

This isn’t something that has just happened. You’ve been playing with Evil
for some time now, but not having the COURAGE to stand up to the SINS of
Homosexuality, Cross Dressing, Lust, pre-Marital sex, etc. You’ve become a
tool of Satan by being too friendly with the WORLD, and not being true to
your Christian roots, the TRUTHS of God as expressed in the Scriptures.
Knowledge and Wisdom are not the same things. God and Satan are not the same
either. It’s time you learned the difference, then be Strong and Courageous
as you represent God is a Fallen World. As of now, you are in the early
stages of representing Satan in the midst of His Children. Pretty soon, if
you don’t clean up your act, you’ll be representing Satan as he seeks to
destroy God’s Church, the Body of Christ.

I’m praying for you,

(Brothers and Sisters in Christ. If you feel led, please respond to this
issue today. Our Catholic siblings at San Diego University are being led to
do evil by their Leadership. If you go to
https://www.alumniforacatholicusd.org <https://www.alumniforacatholicusd.org/>
you’ll learn that SDU is sponsoring a DRAG QUEEN show for the student body.
This sin is being promoted in spite of its obvious sinful nature. The SDU
alumni are up in arms, trying to save the soul of the University and are
asking the help of Christians through out the Country to stand with them in
fighting this evil. Emails can be written, as I’ve done below, or you can
write your own after reading the info at the website link above.

If you choose to write something, send it to
president@sandiego.edu and charlesb@sandiego.edu, the two leaders of SDU who
are supporting this evil. Also, send a copy to USDAlum@limandri.net since
Mr. LiMandri is the one who is leading this effort to stop the “Drag” show
at SDU. …. Thank you.  –

President Lyons,

Peace of Christ Jesus.

My eldest sister is a USD graduate and all three of my sisters celebrated
the Sacrament of Matrimony on campus in the Immaculata.  I have six
children, five of which are approaching their college years, and to all of
whom I have spoken with in high regard of USD.  I am saddened to read about
the impending “drag show” entertainment event.  In the fringes of my
comprehension I can grasp your intent to bring awareness and understanding
to sensitive issues surrounding gender identity.  However in the core of my
heart created by our Lord, I can not grasp a “drag show” as entertainment
and a means to shed light on such issues, especially at a Catholic
Institution.  Certainly it is difficult to find a balance on such delicate
issues in today’s world, but there are better ways to bring the awareness
you are looking for without tainting the image of the school’s Catholic
Core.  I encourage you to find other more meaningful ways to entertain the
students and bring awareness to controversial issues such as gender identity
both today and in to the future.  As Christ has authority over Satan you
have authority over the event.  I humbly request you cast out this event
from the campus in the name of Christ.

May God bless you,

71. ————————

President Lyons, I am a graduate of USD, class of 1980. My time at USD
was one of the most important and it helped form my adult life. I am
married with two sons and active in my parish St. John of the Cross in
Lemon Grove. My sons attended Catholic school all of their lives. My
Gabriel is a Sophomore at St. Augustine High School and Ezekiel is a
sophomore at Boston College. My husband and I believe in Catholic
Education. As an alumnus of USD I find it offensive that a drag show
is being allowed on campus. A Catholic Education includes Christian
values and Christian morals. I am in support of diversity and a
Christian approach to sexual orientations. I believe in personal civil
rights and freedom of speech. I do not believe supporting a drag show
is what my Catholic Faith or my Catholic Alma Mater stand for. I
believe there are other events better fitted to USD that can educate
and support sexual orientation issues and tolerance of others. Thank
you for listening.

72. ————————

I am writing as an alum from the USD school of law, class of 1993. I
am shocked at the notion that USD, a Catholic institution would
support this event. I can assure you, I am very liberal minded and a
staunch democrat, but believe that a Catholic institution should
stand for its core beliefs and values. A drag show? I can’t imagine
how that fits in with Catholic teaching and doctrine.

73. ————————-

I am writing to express my disappointment and concern with regards to
the Drag Queen contest that is being promoted and held at USD.  I am
an alumni.. with 3 teenage children.  It has been so sad for me to
learn and realize how truly difficult it is to find real Catholic
schools for our children and young adults.  I felt I had to let my
voice be heard and send an email expressing my sadness. It is very
difficult work to raise our children into young adults who are more
“of God”  than “of the world.”  The one place I would love to think we
were not standing alone in this task is with our Catholic schools.
That is becoming less and less the case.  Please reconsider your
support of such events as they stand in direct opposition to the very
core of our belief in the family and the place/role of sexuality as
God intended it.

I have several friends who attended a rosary service last week at The
Immaculata for a beloved teacher/counselor at Saint Augustine’s High
School.  They told me that it was so sad and upsetting, that as they
walked through the campus after that touching prayer service with
their young families, every 50 feet they walked over or saw posted an
advertisement for the Drag contest.

It is certainly obvious that the University has joined in the belief
of absolute relativism.  I am so very disappointed.

Sincerely,

74. ————————-

I am extremely hurt and offended that my university alma
mater is allowing the “Drag Show” to take place on our campus.  This is
giving moral approval to the sexually degenerated moral values held by the
moral relativists in our society.  If “right and wrong” can be solely
determined by each individual conscience, then there is no need for a
Catholic University, ethics, or any definition of morality, to exist.  If
moral relativism is the new norm of tolerance, then we can all be
politically acceptable and opposed the “natural laws” that God has given to
His universe; we can then bear the consequences of ignoring our Creator.
God gave us an intellect and a freewill so that we can determine if we
choose the moral values that He created.  If we choose to be tolerant of
evil, and/or choose evil (that which is against God’s law), then we will pay
the consequences of our actions in denying God ways.  Being tolerant of
evil, is being evil.  Everything one chooses is not made good morally,
simply because someone personally feels that he/she likes it.  Moral
Relativism is an oxymoron; if everything is relative, there are no “morals”.

Please have the courage to do what is morally right.  Stop
the “Drag Show” scheduled for tomorrow, April 11, 2012.

75. ———————–

Dr. Lyons,

I am a USD graduate of the class of 1989. Allow me get right to the
point of my letter. I was informed today of the scheduled “Drag Show”
and watched some of the video this group has performed. Cancel this
event on the USD camps and others like it in the future and please do
it immediately! There is plenty of filth on HBO, Showtime and other
secular locations to entertain those that require genre of sexual
deviancy for entertainment, including USD students.

You are president and don’t need to prove anything to the student body
about inclusion and prove you are tolerant. Since the beginning, the
Catholic Church and Jesus Christ were always “intolerant of sinful
behavior”, yet they ministered to the sinner. These are young, mostly
teen aged college students that attend a Catholic University and are
there to learn. The youth don’t know better and should be guided and
led. You could follow the model of the Master, Our Lord Jesus, and use
this as a teaching moment. He would not be present inside this event,
but would counsel the kids before and after. If all that fails, let
them rent a theater or go to a park off campus.

It’s very disheartening that we actually have to spend time writing a
letter to the president of a Catholic university asking or even
begging them to perpetuate Catholic teaching.  Today, I am embarrassed
for my Alma Mater. USD is selling its soul to please the world, just
like Notre Dame and it’s not right.

You should change the website immediately so it is not so misleading
to parents. The USD website in the history section features a quote:

“There are three things that are significant in education: beauty,
truth and goodness.” – Mother Rosalie Clifton Hill

So I must ask, why promote a pro-homosexual group and performance
unless you believe it is demonstrates the above three things that
Mother Hill is quoted from.

# # #

Finally, I will pray for you on this decision, but I am a pragmatic
and expect the worse of humanity to prevail. Nevertheless, if this
event or others like it occur at my alma mater I will have to question
the leadership of the institution.

In Christ,

76. ———————

Ms. Lyons,

Is the ³drag show² you are promoting at the University of San Diego for the
glory of our Heavenly Father and for the salvation of souls?  Have you asked
that question of yourself?  If not, perhaps it is time you did.  You have
responsibility for many young lives, will it be to their detriment or to
their good.  I pray, dear Lord, ³give Ms. Lyons discernment to recognize the
evil forces around her, and reveal to her the power they have in You to
defeat it.  I ask You to do these things in Jesus¹ name. Amen²
He is risen, Alleluia!

Sincerely,
77. ———————

Dear Dr. Lyons,

The Drag Show scheduled for presentation at USD is in pitifully bad taste

and is disrespectful of the Catholic identity of my alma mater. It poorly

camouflages the underlying agenda of a less-than-honest few, on and off

campus, that refuse to accept well-grounded Catholic tradition and values.

USD is being used to promote their manipulative charade that further erodes

the University’s standing in the community and amongst our alumni. This is a

calculated in-your-face assault on everything Catholic dressed up as an

“educational event”. More value would result from a drag race on Marian Way

than a Drag Show in the UC!

78.  —————-

Hello,

I just wanted to write to let you know how embarrassed and

disappointed I was to find out about the drag queen show USD is

planning to host. I graduated from USD 10 years ago and would like to

continue to be proud of my school and sing its praises, but in light

of this promotion of values not in line with our faith, I feel it is

unfortunate and I must cease my support for the time being. I pray

that USD will more carefully consider the types of events and values

it promotes in the future.
