120. ———————— Dear President Lyons, I was recently made aware of the Drag Queen show hosted at USD and I am writing to inform you of my disgust that you would allow such an event to be hosted at our Catholic University. I typically donate to the School of Business because of my great experience with Professor Mark Reidy, but I will not donate in the future until I see that the University has changed direction. I loved my moral and educational experience and received at USD, but it seems that many Catholics are straying from the Moral teachings of the church due to Political Correctness or the perception that “Love your neighbor” would mean there is no such thing as Right or Wrong. I value the experience of meeting many friends at USD that shared the same morals and religious beliefs that I have. I have three daughters in Catholic elementary school and would love for them to attend a Catholic University to continue that education. It is disheartening to see USD fall to the level of so many other liberal Universities. I am sad to say that I would not encourage my daughters to attend USD if you continue to stray from the moral teachings of the Church. I can appreciate the need for diversity in education and experience, but I feel there is a difference between diversity in education and celebrating immoral behavior. While at USD I took and enjoyed Rabbi Dossick’s Jewish Faith and Religion class, which was historical and educational, not an affront to the Catholic religion. I embrace USD’s values and ethics just like I did during my studies in San Diego in the years 1998-2000. If your browse through the brochures inviting students to USD in the ‘90s you will notice the fundamental values that USD has sponsored and kept faith to, which then bolstered a growing reputation throughout the years. I strongly recommend that such values are preserved, not allowing displays of depravation including inviting ‘drag queens’ to the campus or building so called ‘genderless bathrooms’. A faithful Catholic doctrine should be applied and taught to those choosing USD. Although it is important to respect everyone as individual I think you should prioritize the roots from which USD comes when it was established in 1949. Such roots and traditions reflect the continuum of ethics and moral integrity that the Catholic Roman Church has preserved throughout the centuries. Kind regards, 123. ———————— Dear Mr. Bass & Ms. Partynski, I am a graduate of USD ’85 and I support Mr. Limandri’s call to vehemently defend the Catholic Values on which USD was founded by Bishop Buddy. I am appalled that our Catholic University has allowed University activities and professors to act in direct contradiction to our Faith. The line has been drawn and USD has raised the concern of not only the Alumni but ALL the Catholic Community. I’m distressed at a number of things they have been doing in the last several years. Although I was not a practicing Catholic when I attended USD School of Law, I have since returned to my faith. Through my faith journey, I finally had to confront the 3 abortions that I had in my younger days. This led me to a healing program called Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries (www.rachelsvineyard.org). Since going through this program 8 years ago, I’ve become very active in that ministry and in various pro-life activities. So, I’ve become more tuned into things that USD does that appear to be pro-choice or pro-abortion. I’ve written several times, but never heard back from anyone. Although in my own ministry work, I don’t combine the homosexuality issues with the post abortion healing, I do really worry about how much anti-Catholic nonsense seems to permeate our world these days. However, even if I got rich overnight, I certainly would not give a dime to USD unless and until it returns to being a true Catholic institution. I received an email from the Alumni Association apologizing for me receiving your unsolicited email, but I think what you are doing is great. I graduated in 88’ and had five other relatives graduate from USD before and after me. It makes no sense that they would allow that behavior on campus. I responded to their email, and explained my support for your cause to keep USD a Catholic University. It is unfortunate that the Administration can’t see past their pocket books to do the right thing. Tolerance is one thing. This is not tolerance—it’s promotion of an anti catholic Church agenda. 127. ——————— Dear Mr. Bass, I received the email from Mr. LiMandri and was glad for the very important information, information that should have come directly from USD. As alumni, we should have been informed of anti-Catholic activities being held on our beloved campus. His email was a welcome one; however, I am greatly disturbed that my email of concern to you (sent April 12) had no response. When I saw this email, I had hoped it was a response to my concerns or that you would be acknowledging the many emails you have received in opposition to this event that is against Catholic teaching. Instead, a devoted and caring alumni is publicly admonished. I am truly heartbroken that I can no longer recommend USD to potential students as I have great love for my alma mater. I have suspended my participation as a board member of my alumni group and will plan on reallocating my planned donation to the university. I will continue my prayers for the students, faculty, and staff of USD and very much hope that a culture in line with the teaching of the Catholic Church will be fostered in the future.
